But the Portuguese and Portugal aren't typical of what you've been seeing on television (and I did notice that some of the more voluble and violent of the demonstrators had slogans on their t-shirts and carried placards written in very good idiomatic English ...hmmm...)
Since I was writing a guest post for someone today about music I enjoy, I included some Portuguese music. This is a lovely video from a talented group called Madredeus and the song's called "O Pastor". Enjoy the guitar playing (the best) and the pictures of this beautiful country filled with wonderful people who don't deserve what they're having to go through.
Many of the scenes you see in the video will be featured in my new book which will be about the sea, fishing and corruption.
beautiful video, Sue. What a lovely country--and terrific music, too!
ReplyDeleteThe news tends to focus on one tiny aspect. Funny they had slogans in English for all the world to read.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Portugal, but my brother has and says it's one of his favorite places to visit. Beautiful video.
ReplyDeleteI like the strings in the song. Have a good weekend, Susan.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely video - and it's a pity the country's only being portrayed in the press as if it's full of hooligans. I totally agree with demonstrations but I hate violence - it's pointless and cruel.
ReplyDeleteNews trends ten to always focus on tiny aspects. This is a lovely way of showing the bigger picture. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis was awesome. Being 100% Portuguese, but never having been there, I rarely get to see pictures as lovely as these. Thanks so much! (And I haven't heard music with some of those vocal runs since I was very little listening to my parents' old band ;-) The kids immediately came running and made me play it twice. My son said to tell you thanks for the picures of the pies! ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh, and I definitely want to see that manuscript. ;-)
DeletePleasure, t Mc. Annie - you're on!
DeleteHow lovely, Sue x
ReplyDeleteIndeed a lovely country and setting for your novel. The tilework and really all the textures are food for thought. I was surprised by the music to some degree expecting guitar. Hah. Just shows what I don't know. Excellent.
ReplyDeleteHi Sue-- I am a great lover of Portugal. Thank you so much for the post. ; )
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful relaxed voice that singer has. Pretty pictures too. The military architecture is inspiring but the domestic style looks so picturesque and very comfortable.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tara and Elin (trust you to look at the military architecture!!!) XX
ReplyDeleteThe news coming out of Europe has been scary this week. Thanks for reminding us all of the beauty, too.
ReplyDeleteOh, Man. I'm completely out of the loop. How did I miss this news?????
ReplyDeleteIt's all pretty quiet really, Katie and Stina. Thanks for commenting :-)
