Not too insecure today...well, not much (ahem).
My new novel, Rising Tide, is finished! That is, the first draft is finished. Now I'm going back killing all the little darlings I thought were so brilliant and unique at the time, and smacking my forehead because I forgot that so-and-so did that - and now I'll have to change something later on. But I like this process - now the plot's down, I think I use another part of my brain with the editing. My trouble now is finding people who'll be honest enough to critique it for me :-( (any takers?)
The title comes from the proverb: A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats. It's about traditional commercial fishermen, and it's set in Portugal.
Here're some pictures that have inspired me:

I love that Proverb. Congrats on getting the first draft done.
ReplyDeleteI love the second draft phase. Good luck with it. There have been so many positive posts today, we're going to have to rename the group!
ReplyDeleteI'm lucky that I can use both sides of my brain. The analytical side is perfect for editing.
ReplyDeleteGood look with yours!
I feel your pain....Exposing your baby, well I have the same problem. I can promise to be honest and I need a critique partner as well....Interested?
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane, Annalisa, Stina and Siv. Ooooh - Siv!!!
ReplyDeleteI am "whole brain" in my thinking, but I admit that I dislike editing with a passion!! Your book is on my Kindle but I have to finish a project before I can read it. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way - I need that first draft on paper so I can finally DO something with the story.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure which bit of my brain I use. Probably whichever bit isn't preoccupied with chocolate.
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of you finishing your first draft. I'm still plugging along like a slow tugboat. And I love those photos you used for inspiration. They're beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNo problem, Brinda! Hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that Alex does it the same way, that gives me some confidence.
Elin, my mind is constantly on chocolate and coffee
Thank you LG - don't be jealous, it is a hard slog :-(
I love the sunflowers. Good luck killing all the little darlings.
ReplyDeleteHugs and chocolate,
Shelly
Well done, Sue! Good luck with the next draft
ReplyDeleteWow what a great setting! Love those pics! Sounds like you've enjoyed writing it and that's what makes it all worth it. :)
